Innovation in traditional fields

Be honest: Which images come to mind when you hear the words “liquid manure” or “slurry”? I am sure that old farmers working away in the country, entirely ignorant of technology, immediately begin to populate your imagination. Yet one company is determined to work against such prejudice.

Mr. Rudolf BAUER founded this special company in Austria during the 1930s - while hard to believe, it is truly a coincidence that the name Bauer actually means “farmer” in German.

More than 75 years later, Bauer is a company focused on manufacture of slurry and waste paper pumps, running branch offices in more than 80 countries on five different continents. The company's approach combines innovative development, manufacturing plants based on high-tech production processes and – perhaps most importantly – customer oriented planning and consulting.

One reason why this company is very successful is the use of a configurator on its website. With the aid of this online application, users may customize their consulting package, choosing individual products on their own without the need for a personal assistant. Product manager Mr. Roll pinpoints the advantages: “The whole purpose of the configurator is to facilitate the customers’ choice and to minimize the working time in the company.” Another crucial aspect is immediacy: “Our distributors always work with the configurator if they are in contact with customers or at a trade fair. There they benefit from the updated offers.”

The company website launched the configurator approximately three years ago. It is a rather versatile piece of programming, allowing users not only to configure individual parts of slurry technology but also to design an entire irrigation system.

Once a system has been chosen (Centerstar, Linestar, Centerliner, Rainstar), you can fill in details about technical settings, define the area of deployment and volume of water.

The configurator described here and more than 500 further configurators can also be viewed in the
Configurator Database.
