Joseph Pine II: Mass Customization Mistakes

Joseph Pine II is a well known international author, speaker and management advisor. In 1993 Mr. Pine II published the frequently cited and award-winning book Mass Customization: The New Frontier in Business Competition (Harvard Business School Press). In this book Joseph Pine refined and popularized the term “Mass Customization”, which was coined by Stan Davis in the book Future Perfect.

In 1999, he went on to publish his acclaimed book The Experience Economy: Work Is Theatre & Every Business a Stage (Harvard Business School Press), co-written with his partner James H. Gilmore. The book demonstrates why standardized goods and services are no longer enough - “what customers want today are experiences – memorable events that engage each customer in an inherently personal way”. James H. Gilmore and Joseph Pine II followed this up with an edited collection of Harvard Business Review articles headed Markets of One: Creating Customer-Unique Value through Mass Customization (Harvard Business School Press, 2000).

Besides his best selling books Joseph Pine II also wrote numerous of articles for the Wall Street Journal, Chief Executive, Context, CIO, Strategy & Leadership, Health Forum Journal,the IBM Systems Journal and many more.
