Prof Mitchell Tseng is widely recognized for his work concerning mass customization. He chairs the World Congress on Mass Customization and Personalization (MCPC) and is director of the Advanced Manufacturing Institute as well as professor of Industrial Engineering and Engineering Management, both at the Hong Kong University of Science and Technology.
His interest in mass customization was sparked during the mid1980’s, when Mitchell Tseng was engaged in managing the computer configuration program for Digital Equipment Corporation. After working in industry for almost twenty years, Prof. Mitchell Tseng then became the founding department head of Industrial Engineering and Engineering Management at the Hong Kong University of Science and Technology in 1993.
Mitchell Tseng has published two books, namely Customer Centric Enterprise (co-written with Frank Piller in 2003, Springer) and Transformation through Global Value Chain (co-written with Behnam Tabrizi in 2007, Stanford University Press), as well as editing numerous technical papers and articles in the field of mass customization.
